Paul Dunne is the focus of the sporting world today as the Greystones amateur looks to make history at The Open Championship
Dunne might not be able to take home the winners’ cheque if he carries on his sensational form and takes victory at St Andrew’s, but in addition to the Claret Jug, we will be more than happy to induct him into SportsJOE’s Dunne Hall of Fame.
The what, you ask? Let us introduce you to its current members…
Richard
When you earn the nickname ‘Iron Curtain’ for your resolute determination on behalf of your nation, you must be something special. That night in Moscow is enough in itself, but a further 79 appearances for Ireland included plenty of other memorable defensive performances.
Bernard
Former WBA super bantamweight champion with a 28-2 professional record? Yeah, that’ll do nicely.
Liam
An uncompromising centre-back who was one of Wexford’s greatest hurlers. Made 39 senior county championships appearances, including winning the All-Ireland in 1996.
Tony
The first Republic of Ireland player to win the European Cup, Tony also won two league titles during a 13-year spell at Manchester United. The former Shels full-back played 33 times for Ireland.
Ben
Those are some cheap gyms, all right.
