WATCH: Galway hurlers make young fan’s day on The Late Late Toy Show

Niall McIntyre

“How are you so good?”

The Galway hurlers made a young supporter’s day on The Late Late Toy Show on Friday night. Johnny Coen, Pádraic Mannion, Conor Cooney, Gearóid McInerney and David Burke brought the Liam MacCarthy cup into the RTÉ studios to bring delight to the face of a Galway fan.

Young supporter Daniel Grogan appeared on the show to display his hurling skills with the rebounder. His elation with his county’s hurling side’s achievements over the last year was clear. His pride in the Tribesmen’s first All-Ireland hurling championship win in 29 years was clear.

St. Thomas’ club man David Burke led his Galway troops out onto the stage.

“Is this the real Liam MacCarthy?,” asked an excited Grogan.

“That’s the real Liam MacCarthy,” replied the captain.

Burke wasn’t finished there. The hurlers had a season ticket for Galway games in 2018 for Grogan and his family. They had a signed kit, a team photograph, a signed hurley and sliotar, the team annual, and an invitation to come watch the team train in January.

They weren’t done there, they then offered him an opportunity to be the team-mascot for their first competitive outing of the new year against Antrim in the National Hurling League in January.

Young Daniel was overwhelmed with excitement, but he did manage to ask them, how they were so bloody good?

He’ll be the envy of all his friends in school.
