WATCH: Donegal footballer hits FOUR delightful goals as county makes history

Conan Doherty

Bottom left, bottom right, and the postage stamp. Left foot, right foot, dead ball and under serious pressure.

It’s safe to say that Geraldine McLaughlin leads from the front.

The Donegal captain hit the net in Sligo on four different occasions to help her county into the Lidl Division One final for the first time in ladies football history.

In what was a blitzing of Galway in the end, the Ulster side booked their place in the decider against Cork with a 5-11 to 1-7 victory and the westerners simply couldn’t cope with the dynamic McLaughlin who produced a deadly, cold-blooded performance in the full forward line.

With two of her goals coming from the penalty spot, the Termon club player went low to the left before going high to the right on the second occasion and, from open play, she ripped through the Galway defenders like they weren’t even there.

The first was finished off brilliantly with the left as McLaughlin held on and worked some space under serious pressure from six opposition players before a glorious Shannon McGruddy pass found her club mate over the top and the frightening number 14 held her nerve with the most composed of finishes.

All four goals were captured brilliantly by Jerome Quinn for the LGFA.

Donegal march on to the final on May 7 now where they will play Cork in a double header with the Division Two decider.

The Divisions Three and Four finals will be played on April 30.
