Galway and Dublin are getting ready to make history this Sunday afternoon in one of the world’s most famous sporting arenas.

Not since 1954 has Fenway Park seen a game of hurling on its gorgeous turf.

This Sunday however, our native sport will make a welcome return to Boston, as Galway and Dublin face off in the Fenway Classic, which will be a game of super 11 hurling played at the iconic home of the Red Sox.

Both sides flew out earlier this week, and players have been doing some promotional work ahead of a massive weekend of sporting action in the city.

And one event involved Johnny McCaffrey and David “Dotsy” O’Callaghan helping local kids get to grips with hurling, which seems to have gone down very well indeed

The game is on Sunday with Irish viewers able to watch it on TG4 from 6.10pm, while in the States, the game is also being televised on a local station in Boston.

New England Sports Network also got down to the special training session to do a report where hurling was described as a “mix of hockey, baseball and lacrosse” and played with an “axe-shaped stick”.

We’re not sure Henry Shefflin would agree with that, but it’s interesting to see how the sport is being viewed by Bostonians.

There’s plenty of local interest too.

Even if some people are a bit confused

Before the hurling there is a big American football game between Notre Dame and Boston College, so Fenway currently looks like this.

And here’s how they did it
