Trinity College commentary on hurling game should end the stupid stereotypes

The most un-Trinity thing ever

Niall McIntyre

Spoken like a true country man.

A cold, damp and dark night in Santry was brightened up by the Twitter updates of the Trinity College GAA page who brought the Dublin college’s first round of the division 2 hurling league against Queen’s University to life.

We’re all well used to the drab, boring Twitter updates that let us all know the scoreline, maybe the scorers, but that’s just about it.

More-often-than-not, they’re not doing the game in front of them justice. They have so much scope, so much opportunity to make a difference but they’re content to leave it be.

We want a bit of creativity, we want a bit of personality, we want someone who’ll put their necks on the chopping block and give us a real, honest account of the game.

You’re part of the team, you’re allowed to be biased, you’re allowed to get excited, let us join in the fun.

Trinity enjoyed a comprehensive victory over the Belfast college, to get their senior hurling campaign up and running, and they probably earned a few new Twitter followers along the way, too.

For some reason unknown to us, Trinity College has this reputation as a college that is full of posh people.

When someone tells you they’re in college in Trinity, how often do you go, “ooooh Trinners.”

Their senior hurling team definitely don’t comply to the stereotype.

All the lads.

The Dublin senior star Cian O’Sullivan wasn’t too bothered about playing two games in two days. Getting down and getting his hands dirty for the cause. No softness here.

F*ck the rugby lads. Hurling is the way to go.

That man again.

Hate when a cold sore pops up out of nowhere.

You’ve a stick for a reason Mark.

Sully cut him deep.

Heeney saw the name on the front pages of Tuesday morning’s newspapers.

Thirsty work.

Ease up now, Butler.

Go on the kid.

It’s not all about you, Ciano.

Enough said.

At least you tried.

No excuses please, Mark.

Same again next time, please.

The stereotypes are gone out the window.
