This is great to see.
Waterford star man and 2016 Young and Senior Hurler of the Year Austin Gleeson may be busy preparing for his side’s crucial qualifier clash with Wexford this Sunday, but the Mount Sion club man has shown that he still has admirable ties to his roots.
The 22-year-old called out to the house of a massive Waterford supporter Billy Gear, who is the mayor of the Johns Park area in Waterford city, to have a chat, and to provide him with a jersey.
Gear, a well known character in and around Waterford city provided Gleeson with some crucial tactics for Sunday’s game, informing the Waterford I.T student that “Goals, all Goals” is what Derek McGrath’s side will need to overcome Wexford.
In fairness to gear, his analysis isn’t far off the mark as a lack of ability to score goals has been the Achilles heal of this Waterford side for the last while, and Billy, as well as any of us knows that goals win games.
The Déise will be hoping ‘Aussie’ and the rest of the Déise side take his advice on board.
That’s brilliant stuff from Gleeson and it’s great to see that our hurlers still have ties to their roots, just like teammate Pauric Mahony has proven on occasions in the past.
