First Rory Gallagher gets three more years with Donegal and now this.
Stephen Rochford has categorically denied that Jim McGuinness had any contact with the Mayo footballers this year – going so far as to say he has never met the Sky Sports pundit.
It is a good thing Jim McGuinness has a full-time coaching job with Celtic, because jobs in Gaelic football – both past and imaginary – are seemingly passing him by.
Of course the 2012 All-Ireland winning manager is not looking for a job in Gaelic football – for the moment at least – but that did not stop pundit Martin Carney from making the audacious claim on Today FM last week that McGuinness had helped Mayo prepare for the All-Ireland final.

At a media event on Tuesday, Mayo manager Rochford stated that he has “never spoken to…or met” McGuinness in his life.
“If somebody wants to say the Pope is training us next week, so be it!” he added, reports the42.ie.
“It won’t distract us from what the task is on Saturday week.”
Gone be the days when McGuinness can be found at the centre of pre-All-Ireland final scandals. Back in 2014 a former team-mate of the then Donegal manager was discovered hiding up a tree, watching Kerry training in Fitzgerald Stadium.
We’ll await Martin Carney’s explanation for this complete and utter falsehood with bated breath.
