Well, it’s good news anyway but it’s not the news they were expecting.
Slaughtneil’s chances in their respective football and hurling All-Ireland semi-finals have been boosted with the GAA granting them a bigger rest in between their games.
The Derry champions won the Ulster title in both codes and were scheduled to play the Dublin kingpins in each semi-final – Cuala on February 4 and St. Vincent’s a week later on February 11.
The Emmet’s asked for a two-week gap to be put between the fixtures though because they have as many as 17 men representing the club’s hurling and football squads and the GAA have obliged in helping out.
They’ll still get their two-week break but the football fixture won’t move. Slaughtneil will play Vincent’s in Newry as planned on February 11 but their clash with Cuala in the All-Ireland hurling semi-final has been moved three weeks to February 25.
