James Woodlock calls it a day

These things happen in threes.

So we’re just waiting to see what other well known inter-county hurler decides to call it a day, after James Woodlock today announced that he won’t be hurling for Tipperary anymore.

The midfielder has been a key part of the Tipperary sides of the last number of years, but in a statement today, has confirmed his retirement from the top level of the sport.

“It has been a great honour for me to have been part of Tipperary hurling teams at minor, under 21 and senior level but the time has now come for me to announce my retirement from the inter-county scene.”

“My club, Drom and Inch, has always been very supportive of me and I want to thank everybody in the club for their great encouragement at all times. Now that my inter-county career is over, I look forward to continuing to play with Drom and Inch.”

The 29-year-old won three Munster titles with his native county, while a horrendous injury suffered in 2009 ruled him out the All-Ireland winning campaign of 2010.

His retirement comes just 24 hours after Conor O’Mahony called time on his inter-county hurling career at the age of 31.
