PIC: Ballaghdereen named an insane amount of subs for their club championship opener last night

They could field three teams

Practice games must be intense

The opening games in the Mayo senior football championship took place last night and Eamon O’Hara led his side Ballaghaderreen into action against Castlebar Mitchels.

The former Sligo footballer took over in December and the 2012 county champions endured a difficult night as they lost out by 0-10 to 0-6.

Whatever about the performance, O’Hara can’t use the excuse of not having enough players to pick from as the programme for the game showed a squad of over 50 players named for the game, with nearly 30 men warming their behinds on the bench.

Now that’s what we call squad depth.

Although you’d have to feel sorry for the man wearing number 42.
