Mickey Newman finishes off fantastic Meath move before he’s pushed into the post

Jack O'Toole

Mickey Newman scored a vital second goal for Meath during their round four qualifier with Clare on Sunday but was forced off thereafter after he was pushed into the posts by Clare full-back Cillian Brennan.

Newman started strongly for Meath and had five points in the first-half en route to a half-time draw. He picked back up where he left off in the second-half with another point before he got on the end of a decisive goal that put Meath two points clear.

However, it was Newman’s last act of the day as he was seen lying on the ground clutching at his leg following his collision with the woodwork.

Elsewhere James Conlon and Jamie Malone starred for Meath and Clare respectively. The diminutive Conlon was a nuisance in the Meath full-forward line and cause the Clare defence a lot of problems with his turns and movements while Malone was razor sharp in the first-half with 0-4 and a wide variety of scores.
