MEPs and dogs on the street celebrate Roscommon’s historic win over Kerry

The west's awake

Eamonn Fitzmaurice is facing his fourth relegation battle as Kerry manager.

Kerry simply had no answer to a Roscommon side who were too strong, too smart, too clever, and too accurate for the Kingdom in their home patch by 0-14 to 1-10 in today’s Allianz Football league clash in a rain soaked Killarney.

It’s the first win for the Rossies over the Kingdom since 2001, and it’s another worrying start to life in Allianz Football League Division one for the 2014 All-Ireland champions, as it is the third time in four years Kerry have lost their first two league games.

The celebrations at the full-time whistle showed what it meant to everyone wearing yellow.

Kerry could have no complaints as the Connacht outfit were full value for a win.

And even MEPs were delighted with the result.

And some fans were getting very very excited

The action on the pitch may not have been great, but by far the highlight of the day was not Stephen O’Brien waltzing at least 12 steps to plant the ball into the net.

Instead it was this TG4 co-commentator struggling to hang onto his umbrella in the wind and rain of Fitzgerald stadium.

Elsewhere today in Division one, Donegal gave Cork a massive trimming beating the Rebels by 2-14 to 1-7.

Monaghan got the better of Down to record a second successive win.

In Division two this monster score from the boot of Sean Quigley was the highlight of their win over Meath by 0-10 to 0-6.

Tyrone beat Galway in a grey Salthill

In Division three, dodgy press box and all, but Tipperary got the better of Clare by 2-7 to 1-7, while Sligo edged Westmeath by 1-11 to 1-10, Kildare enjoyed a win over Offaly by 1-12 to 1-8 and Longford beat Limerick by 0-13 to 1-8.
