Mayo tease supporters with threat of big announcement, leaked jersey is all that comes

Niall McIntyre

Some teasing going on.

Mayo supporters are the most obsessive fanatics in the GAA and they don’t even need any bewitching to get them going. They’re already on tilt full-time at this stage anyway, with the managerial hot-seat at the head of the senior football side vacant and gaping.

They don’t need to be hyped up any more.

So Mayo GAA did this at around 5.00 on Thursday evening.

There is big news coming. Stay tuned.

The mere sniff of such speculation, of such possibility drives them crazy, and with this carrot, those from the west were already half-way up Croagh Patrick praying to God that the incoming bombshell would be the announcement of the new manager as the man they’ve been hoping for the last few weeks it would be.

James Horan or Michael Solan. At least the waiting is over. At least they’ve something to cling onto now.

So 5.00 turns to six.

And six turns to seven.

After frantically refreshing their Twitter feeds for just under two hours, hanging on the belief that the next update is the coronation of the man who will lead them through battles and towards glory for the years and years to come.

And then the big breakthrough emerges that Mayo will reveal their new jersey in just under 15 hours time.

No not the jersey. Just an announcement that the jersey is coming. But you’ll have to sleep before you see it.

At least a leaked jersey did emerge in the meantime. And it is lovely.

As only they can though, Mayo fans kept the faith and they’re still replying to that tweet from their county’s official account now.

Maybe the announcement is only around the corner.
