VIDEO: Limerick and Cork minors float over stunning sideline cuts worthy of Joe Canning

Kevin McGillicuddy

Take a bow son, take a bow.

The art of the sideline cut is one that was mysterious to us as very bad hurlers.

A piece of sideline turf was likely to go further than the sliotar when we had to flight a ball into the edge of the square.

We certainly didn’t have anything like the talent that was shown by the minor hurlers of Cork and Limerick last Wednesday night when the chance to grab a score from the ground presented itself.

Joe Canning may be the best-known hurler in Ireland for cutting the ball over the bar from the ground, but we think Limerick’s Darragh Carroll and Cork’s Evan Sheehan have been clearly studying the Portumna ace.

Limerick and Cork both enjoyed wins over Clare and Waterford respectively in the Munster minor championship midweek, and we look forward seeing more examples of classy point taking over the coming months from both youngsters.
