Dublin 2-17 Tyrone 0-11
As Dublin went into halftime seven points ahead just about everyone was coming to the realisation how far ahead of Tyrone they really are.
Mickey Harte’s side is the only ‘super team’ that Dublin haven’t faced over the past couple of years as they have romped to two consecutive All-Ireland titles.
They were meant to be the team to rattle Dublin, they were meant to be the ones to replicate what Donegal did back in 2014.
But they never showed up, or not even that they never showed up they were just outclassed by a great team.
Dublin effectively went through the motions as they ran out comfortable winners, in the end, to set up a date with Mayo again in the All-Ireland final for the second year running and it finally started to hit home just how good this team are.
Joe Brolly was speaking on RTÉ at halftime criticising Mickey Harte and Tyrone, the pundit labelled the long serving Tyrone manager as not a tactical genius and while on his rant he summed up just how good Dublin really are.
“It’s a one-dimensional game plan that’s very, very good against the lesser teams,” Brolly said of how Tyrone play the game.
“But these guys are up there with the great Kerry team that Pat (Spillane) played on,” Brolly concluded.
Sitting next to him was Spillane who nodded his head in agreement, this Dublin side are something else.
The great side that Brolly is referring to is the Kerry team that won four consecutive All-Ireland titles from 1978 to 1981.
Dublin are on course to win three-in-a-row if they can get past Mayo in three weeks time, a feat that hasn’t been achieved since Kerry did it back in 1986 which proves just how difficult it really is.
Mayo will look to break their curse against Dublin but when they line out against Jim Gavin’s side they’ll know that they will be facing possibly the greatest side to ever play the game or at least very close to it.
