Jason Sherlock may well be the reason that Dublin are so damn unstoppable going forward

An all-time great

Darragh Culhane

Dublin.

What more do you need to say about them, they are awesome.

Tyrone were meant to be the team to rattle Jim Gavin’s side this summer, they had the game plan and the defence to keep them at bay and possibly the counter attack to catch the reigning All-Ireland champions off guard.

It didn’t happen that way, Dublin were brilliant and from the get go they made the Ulster champions look bang average.

They beat Mickey Harte’s men by 12 points as Sean Cavanagh bowed out from inter-county football.

When Dublin went forward they barely wasted a possession, it was smart, ruthless and clinical.

That forward line has an abundance of talent, so much so that it is hard to imagine that the inclusion of Diarmuid Connolly or Bernard Brogan could have improved it.

Since the Dublin dominance began in 2011 their forward play has only got better by the year and seems to have hit its peak.

This could be in no small part to the help of one former Dublin legend, Jason Sherlock.

The 41-year-old works as a coach with the senior team and former Meath player Cian Ward believes that their constant improvement and unmatchable style is thanks to Sherlock’s influence.

Speaking on the latest episode of the GAA Hour the former forward was full of praise of his old foe:

“I think that Dublin’s forward play is brilliant because I still don’t believe individually that there aren’t forwards out there as good and as talented as what Dublin have,” the Wolf Tones man said.

“There are in other counties, there are players out there, good intelligent footballers and if they had Jason Sherlock like the cohesion with how they move the ball and how they attack and the position to pick up.

“Look it, I don’t know for sure if it is him but I have a strong suspicion that it is Jason Sherlock because there are a lot of brilliant moves brilliant intelligent football.

“He was an exceptionally intelligent player with his movement and his decision making when he played and he definitely has added a huge amount to that Dublin set up,” Ward concluded.
