What a year of football that was.
It had it all from Dublin’s unbeaten streak being smashed in the league, upsets in the form of Down beating Monaghan and Roscommon trashing Galway. And then there was Mayo.
Stephen Rochford’s side never failed to entertain the public throughout the summer with the Roscommon replay the only game that people weren’t on the edge of their seats.
Andy Moran was their best player this year, at 34-years-old he turned back the clock and had a career year.
He was scoring for fun and added another three points against Dublin in the final, what a player.
But for as good as Andy Moran was this year one man that can match him is James McCarthy, the Ballymun Kickhams player had a sensational year for Dublin after slotting into midfield and proved that he belongs in that position after a stellar final, scoring a couple of crucial points.
And that’s why the pair are going to fight it out for the Player of the Year awards at the tail end of the year.
Nobody else will come close to the pair, probably. And the bookmakers’ odds reflect that.

There’s literally nothing between them and the odds have chopped and changed in the past 24 hours but the pair remains constant at the top.
