Every Kerry fan must be worried after what Eamonn Brannigan did to their side today

Patrick McCarry

Nothing short of cruel.

Eamonn Brannigan made short work of Brian O Beaglaoich in Tralee this afternoon.

The An Gaeltacht man was tasked, for much of his side’s Allianz League encounter with Galway, with containing Brannigan but he met his match today. And then some.

The 22-year-old has shown glimpses of what he can do at senior level before but this was his most complete performance.

Brannigan scored 1-3 as Galway continued their winning start to the league campaign, seeing off Kerry 1-14 to 0-14.

He had already scored his first point and was well settled in when, after 14 minutes, Damien Comer found him with a free. O Beaglaoich was twisted and turned before Brannigan sent one soaring over the bar.

The best was yet to come, though. For Kerry fans, the ease at which O Beaglaoich and Ronan Shanahan were left for dust will be concerning.

The St Michael’s clubman, sporting luminous yellow boots, streaked in from 35 yards out and, even when the ball was knocked from his gasp, fired home past Brian Kelly.

It was fitting that Brannigan’s final score of the game was also Galway’s and, again, it was from play. He was next to unstoppable to contain all afternoon.

This was his second goal in three weeks as he found the net in his side’s victory over Donegal too:

When you are in the type of form that half forward is, and chipping in with those type of scores, your boots can be as loud and garish as you like.

2018 is going pretty well for Brannigan and for the Galway footballers.
