Never has a man caused as much damage celebrating a goal as Cork player who set it up

Niall McIntyre

Fire in the belly boy!

The Munster final began like a house on fire. Kerry vs Cork in Páirc Uí Chaoimh of a sunny Saturday evening, we knew there wasn’t going to be defensive football.

There were no blankets, there were no screens. These two counties are too proud to admit defeat by going defensive, especially against each other.

And the start lived up to the billing. The Rebels hit the ground running in front of their home crowd. Jamie O’Sullivan had the Kingdom net rattled within 90 seconds of the throw-in and we knew we were in for a game then.

O’Sullivan got his chance after some sterling work from Ruairí Deane down the wing. The big, burly half forward soared into the skies to catch a skyscraper of a high one, and he put it on a plate for his teammate to finish.

That man Deane had plenty of fire in his belly.

Watch his reaction to the ball hitting the net here. He kicks the umpire’s flag first which eventually sees the flag depart the stick when the umpire goes to wave it. He then blasts the ball away before letting Paul Murphy know he’s there.

Then he explodes out to rattle Peter Crowley with a good old fashioned shoulder.

The hair was standing on the back of his neck.

A couple of minutes later he was harshly shown a black card by the referee for a collision with Jason Foley.
