Club kingpins reach provincial finals in exciting day of action

Crossmaglen and Nemo back at top table

Kevin McGillicuddy

The weather was not kind to any GAA sides looking to put on their best performances today in the various AIB GAA club championships.

The football and hurling may not have been helped by some poor weather, but that won’t bother today’s winners who march on to provincial finals later this month, or in early December.

Munster senior club football semi final: Nemo Rangers 0-14 Killarney Legion 0-8.

Killarney Legion never got up to the pace of their Cork rivals, and despite the best efforts of James O’Donoghue, exited the Munster club championship at the first hurdle.

Nemo’s experience showed in every line of the field, and led by Tomas O Sé from number six, they were in front of the Kerry side by 0-7 to 0-2 at the break, and powered on in the second half to a comfortable win.

Munster senior club football semi final: Clonmel Commercials 1-13 Miltown St Josephs 0-3

The Tipperary champions ended a 14-year-wait for sides from the Premier to reach a provincial club football decider with a devastating 13 point win over the Clare champions this afternoon.

Despite playing against the wind, they led by 0-8 to 0-1 at half time, and when Michael Quinlivan fisted home a goal after 40 minutes the Tipperary side could plan their first Munster club final appearance since 1994, when they faced Castlehaven.

Munster senior club hurling semi final Na Piarsaigh 2-15 Thurles Sarsfields 0-17

It’s a Limerick v Waterford Munster senior club final this winter after Na Piarsaigh proved too strong for the Tipperary champions this afternoon.

Shane Dowling’s 0-7 was crucial in the win as he proved unerring from frees, while Thurles led at the break by 0-12 to 0-9.

The Limerick champions grabbed an all important goal from Peter Casey after 38 minutes and from there they took hold of the scoreboard and set up a final meeting with Ballygunner.

Munster club senior camogie final Milford 5-18 Newmarket-on-Fergus 1-9

The Clare champions had no answer to the power and precision of the Cork outfit who proved too strong from the off in the re-fixed clash in Ballygran this afternoon.

It’s the Cork sides fourth consecutive Munster title.

Leinster senior club semi final Cuala 3-12 Clara 0-17

Only one Dublin side has ever won a Leinster club hurling title, and Cuala’s quest to end that miserable streak continued with an impressive win over the Kilkenny champions today.

Goals from Colm Cronin, Sean Treacy and Mark Schutte proved crucial in the win as they led by 2-8 to 0-10 at the break.

Leinster senior club semi final Oulart-the-Ballagh 0-16 Clonkill 0-8

A double scores win for the Wexford champions means they are back in yet another Leinster final after a comfortable win over the Westmeath side.

The winners led by 0-11 to 0-3 at the break, and booked their place in a fifth Leinster final in just six seasons at their ease in the second period.

Ulster senior club football semi final Crossmaglen 0-12 Kilcoo 0-8.

A game of two halves as Crossmaglen and Kilcoo were deadlocked on 0-3 at the break before a lively second half saw the Armagh champions grind down their opponents.

Kilcoo ended the game with 14-men and Dominic McAvoy’s red card on 53 minutes signalled the end of the challenge for the Down side.

A huge crowd in Newry was left largely disappointed by the football on offer as both sides struggled in the difficult conditions and Tony Kernan top scored for the winners with three pointed frees.

Ulster senior club football semi final Scotstown 2-9 Trillick 2-7

The Tyrone champions Trillick’s Ulster club adventure came to a heartbrekaing end at the hands of Monaghan’s finest this afternoon.

Darren Hughes proved the hero with two goals, one in either half,as Trillick failed to score in the final 20 minutes of the game.
