What in the name of God are you wearing on your hands, Joe Hayes?
The Clare footballers are in their pre-game huddle for their football qualifier clash with Mayo and it all seems to be going to plan.
That’s until goalkeeper Joe Hayes drapes his hand around their half-forward Jamie Malone with the a pair of gloves like we’ve never seen before.
Poor Malone didn’t know what to think, we wouldn’t blame him either.
How would you react in that situation?
We’re unsure if he’s decided on the age-old Halloween tradition of using a bin-bag when you’ve nothing else to wear, but that’s what it looks like.
The optics aren’t so good for Hayes’ gloves, but they were a bit better for Clare football supporters with the Banner boys leading Mayo at half-time in Cusack Park, Ennis by two points on a scoreline of 0-8 to 0-6.
It all came crashing down with two quickfire goals for the O’Connor brothers of Mayo in the early stages of the second half.
We couldn’t blame Hayes’ gloves for that, though.
In Fairness to Hayes, his gloves didn’t serve him too badly. He pulled off a few fine saves from Mayo attackers and even brought a ball down from over his crossbar that was destined to become a point.
There’s no point in hiding them now Joe, the damage is done.
Let’s just rewind to better times for the Clare goalkeeper.
Maybe he’s just turned into a hipster in the meantime.
Whatever it is, we’re here for you, Joe.
Times are tough.
