Con O’Callaghan is back in the UCD starting XV.
Four days after booking Cula’s place in the All-Ireland hurling final, Con O’Callaghan has returned to start for UCD.
The 21-year-old has been named as a surprise starter for their Sigerson Cup semi-final clash against Ulster University.
O’Callaghan hasn’t featured for UCD all year. Instead, he opted to focus on hurling with Cuala, who face 2016 winners Na Piarsaigh of Limerick in the final on St Patrick’s Day. Cuala are aiming to win back-to-back All-Ireland titles while UCD are looking to book their third Sigerson final in a row.
The five-week break before the All-Ireland final means O’Callaghan has time to go after that elusive Sigerson cup. Remarkably, it’s one of the few pieces of silverware missing from his heaving trophy cabinet.
The winner of tonight’s semi will play either NUIG or DIT. Those colleges will slug it out in Mullingar.
