He led the Tribesmen to Liam MacCarthy Cup success in 2017.
Micheál Donoghue is returning to his native Galway to manage the senior hurling team, seven years after he led them to All-Ireland glory.
The 49-year-old from Clarinbridge has agreed on a four-year deal with his former employers and will take charge ahead of the 2025 season.
In 2017, Donoghue led Galway to their first All-Ireland win since the double success of 1987-88.
The following year, he guided Galway to another All-Ireland final, where they just lost out to an emerging Limerick side who went on to dominate the Championship for the next few years.
The former wing-back went on to manage the Dublin hurlers throughout 2022 and 2023, before stepping down earlier this month.

Galway GAA posted a statement to social media this morning announcing the appointment of Donoghue as manager.
“Micheál and his management team will be put forward for a four-year term at Monday night’s County Committee meeting,” they wrote.
“We look forward to working closely with Micheál and his management team and wish them all the very best in the years ahead.”
