Willian reveals what he said to David Meyler just before his penalty miss

Jack O'Toole

Chelsea winger Willian admitted to playing mind games with Hull City midfielder David Meyler right before the Ireland international’s penalty miss in Friday night’s FA Cup fifth round tie.

Chelsea stormed their way to a 4-0 win over the Tigers at Stamford Bridge with Willian bagging a brace, while Pedro and Olivier Giroud also getting on the scoresheet.

With Hull trailing 4-0 at half-time, Meyler had a chance to pull a goal back but Chesea goalkeeper Willy Caballero produced a fine save to deny the Corkonian.

Willian said that he told Meyler not to shoot in the middle and told the Irishman as such after his miss.

“I said to him: ‘you’re going to miss’”, Willian said after the win.

“I said: ‘don’t shoot in the middle because Willy (Caballero) won’t move — he stays,’ and then when he missed I said ‘I told you’.”

Chelsea have now scored seven goals in their last two games after conceding seven goals in the previous two games.
