Watford player chased by opposition after full-time dance

“We have to admit, he deserves that one. We want to win with humility and dignity.”

Ireland’s Rocco Vata gave Tom Cleverley’s Watford a huge 2-1 Championship win over Portsmouth, with a 95th minute winner.

Not to be undone, however, his teammate Kwadwo Baah was sent off after the full-time whistle for goading the away fans and players.

After the forward turned to wave his hands at the visiting support, Pompey players ran to chase him away, but the Watford man welcomed the challenged and proceeded to dance in the penalty area, while making an ‘L’ shape on his forehead.

Watford boss Tom Cleverley knew the travelling support had initially goaded Baah, but he was none the less unhappy with his player for rising to the bait.

He said: “We have to admit, he deserves that one. We want to win with humility and dignity.

“People will try to goad you, and that’s what he was reacting to. You can’t react to that as a top professional footballer. Unfortunately we’ll miss him for Sunday.

“We’ve got a special thing going on here (at home). That’s 17 unbeaten here now.

“I was pleased that we didn’t get desperate and keep lumping it forward.

“I didn’t think it would be as late as it was, but I was positive that we’d get the chances we needed to win the game.”
