WATCH: We hope Wayne Rooney didn’t record last night’s MUTV phone-in debate on his form

It escalated quickly

Keith from Wilmslow has had enough!

MUTV famously canned an interview with Roy Keane in which he lambasted his Manchester United teammates.

Last night, the club’s in-house TV station started a debate on United’s current form and were inundated with calls about Wayne Rooney.

The forward/midfielder has experienced a stark drop off in form over the past three years and has reached a stage were most supporters would prefer if he sat out the next couple of games.

Having told the press, during the summer, that he would never use Rooney in midfield, Jose Mourinho played him in midfield for the 2-1 loss to Watford. He repented and started Rooney up front against Northampton Town for United’s League Cup tie.

Rooney had a fitful impact up front and failed to get on the score-sheet.

Phone-in shows often provide irate fans with an opportunity to vent. On MUTV, it usually falls to a club legend to tow the party line. The host is never far away either.

Last night, Sammy McIlroy attempted to defend Rooney’s form to caller Keith from Wilmslow. It did not wash.

“His touch is awful, he looked a bit chubby to me, he’s not covering the ground quick enough to press the ball. He can’t play up front.”

Keith was only getting started…

Keith’s solution – Rooney is back-up for Zlatan Ibrahimovic or plays the cup games.
