Paolo Maldini is that you?

No! But it is Ireland defender Sean St Ledger putting on a defensive masterclass that would make the legendary Italian proud.

The former Preston and Leicester player showed ridiculous awareness as he bailed out his goalkeeper who was well beaten by the strike of Kristinn Steindorsson in Orlando City’s 2-0 victory over Columbus Crew on Tuesday night.

The last-ditch header kept Columbus Crew out of the game and allowed a safe path for Orlando into the quarter-final of the US Open Cup.

And ‘keeper Tally Hall does not take the clearance for granted as he heaped praise on his defender after the game.

“I think Ledge had the save of the year,” he said. “I don’t think I’m going to be able to beat that one.

“The view I had is going for the ball and I’m turning around to watch it hit the back of the net and all of the sudden he just comes flying in. It was a well-placed shot and it was a special save.”
