Telling a young, impressionable Ronaldo that Eric Cantona was the real Manchester United No.7 would have been much more believable.
Rio Ferdinand has given a further insight into the driven personality possessed by the Portuguese star.
On this morning’s Fletch & Sav, Ferdinand revealed how the United players used to wind up Ronaldo about the man he had replaced at Old Trafford in 2003 – David Beckham.
“We’d be in the changing room – myself, Quinton Fortune, Darren Fletcher and Wayne Rooney – and we’d tell him ‘Becks is the real Number 7. He’s the Daddy. Beckham is up here. Ronaldo is down here.’
“He used to go mad. He’d be boiling up; you could see it. He was that determind to be a superstar.”
