Lionel Messi has been announced as the winner of UEFA Goal of the Season for his second strike against Bayern Munich in last season’s Champions League semi-final.
It is of course remembered as much for German defender Jerome Boateng’s utter bamboozlement as it is for Messi’s sublime skill.
But let’s not forget that Boateng is an extremely talented World Cup winner, and only a talent as heavenly as Messi’s managed to put him on his arse so emphatically.

Messi’s teammate Marc-Andre ter Stegen won the award for Save of the Season, after somehow foiling Robert Lewandowski (twice) in the Champions League semi-final second leg.
