We may as well call the title race now.
Jose Mourinho has revealed a statistic that shows he always wins the treble when his team starts the season with a 2-2 home draw.
The Chelsea boss was asked his opinion on his team’s history against managers whose surnames begin with a P as the Blues’ last six defeats have come at the hands of Pellegrini, Pochettino, Pulis, Pardew and Poyet.
Mourinho laughed it off but broke out a stat that suggests a treble is on the way for the reigning Premier League champions.
“I wouldn’t mind going to the superstitious side of the game,” he said. “And on the superstitious side of the game I never win against a P and seasons when I start with a 2-2 at home, I win the treble.
“2-2 in Porto v Belenenses, we won the treble. 2-2 in Inter v Bari, we won the treble. 2-2 against Swansea…”
We wouldn’t go betting the farm on a Chelsea treble based on their performance against Man City last weekend but, hey, history tends to repeat itself.
