If ever you need an example of the Premier League now having more money than sense, check this out.
Everton have a new away jersey. It’s navy with salmon trim.
It’s looks pretty decent and the design is simple enough, even allowing for the sponsor’s splodge.
But you can’t simply stick a ‘New Jersey’ sign outside the club shop, now, or tweet out a picture of three unsmiling players in the new rig-out. There needs to be a launch.
So, this morning at 8am, we were treated to one. Ramiro Funes Mori was rolled out to the centre circle at Goodison Park and told to stand there for ages. He must have felt pretty awkward until he was assured that the video would be jazzed up in post-production.
The full jersey launch video is just like a Jason Bourne movie with a salmon pay-off at the end. The colours are an homage to the kit Everton’s first league-winning side donned back in 1890/91.

As for the kit itself, here’s Ross Barkley glowering at you in it:
It’s available from July 22. Should look well on The Toffees’ Irish contingent, which may yet include Jeff Hendrick.
