You wot mate?
Eamon Dunphy is what he is, and unashamedly so. His brand of bolshy punditry and football analysis on RTÉ is cranky, opinionated and far from mundane. Some viewers find him maddening in the extreme, whilst others think he’s hilarious and great value in a sea of bland say-what-you-see broadcasters.
He’s got an opinion on everything; it’s always very strong and forthright, even on the occasions when he’s not the best informed. This was perhaps evidence on Wednesday night after Manchester United thrashed CSKA Moscow 4-1 on their own patch. The visitors’ star performer was Anthony Martial, with a dazzling display of silky skills and end product.
But according to Dunphy, whenever the talented Frenchman scores a goal for Mourinho’s men, it’s awful news for the money men at Old Trafford. He reckons United have to pay his old club Monaco £2m for each Martial goal. That’s right – according to the Irishman, if the forward scored 20 goals every season, that’d be £40m into the French side’s coffers each year.
We suspect Dunphy is somewhat mistaken. On the other hand, it would explain why Jose benches him so often. On current form, United will be bankrupt by January…
Monaco get 2 Million quid everytime Martial scores apparently hahahahahahaha pic.twitter.com/rpRcxiLVZi
