Cristiano Ronaldo didn’t seem surprised.
Lionel Messi won his fifth Ballon d’Or award earlier today at the awards ceremony in Zurich, Switzerland.
It’s no secret that his rival Ronaldo covets the award more than any other on offer in football, and had won it on the last two occasions.
However, after a stellar 2015, Messi was the heavy favourite for the award. The Barcelona forward scored 48 goals during 2015, and inspired his side to five trophies.
“It is a very special moment for me to be back here on this stage,” Messi said upon collecting the award.
“Winning again another Ballon d’Or after being there in the audience watching Cristiano win.It’s incredible this is my fifth. It’s much more than anything I’ve dreamed of as a kid.”
