"We can be satisfied with the performance but not the result."

That's how Louis van Gaal described the dour affair that got this Premier League weekend started as Manchester United and Newcastle finished 0-0 in Saturday's early kick-off. Rooney had a goal ruled out for offside, Smalling hit the post late on and Hernandez should have found the net but the lack of finishing ability in LVG's side was glaringly obvious. And the frustration of United fans was best summed up by BT Sport panelist Paul Scholes who couldn't even muster a real word in response to Van Gaal's post-match interview.
