VINE: Roy Hodgson happy with point earned in friendly game in which no points can be earned

Poor Roy doesn't get it

Darragh Murphy

Following football is hard.

Points in the league, knockout in the cup. Sometimes we don’t know how we manage to keep up but we soldier on regardless.

Who can forget the massive three points earned by Liverpool in their penalty shootout Champions League victory in Istanbul? Or when Manchester United knocked Liverpool out of the league with their 2-1 win a fortnight ago.

It’s all very bloody tricky and poor old Roy Hodgson fell victim to the difficulty when he expressed his happiness after Andros Townsend’s late equaliser against Italy earned a phantom point last night.

Perhaps Roy has his own league table that he drew up before his managerial debut back in 1976 and has been steadfastly tallying up points over the years in competitive games, friendlies, practice games, the lot.
