Vine: Bradford manager snubs Jose Mourinho’s handshake before the end of game

Jose Mourinho has a habit of offering to shake opposing managers before the final whistle.

Last season the Chelsea manager said his reason for doing so was that he had to telephone his wife to tell her the score. And it appears Mrs Mourinho still doesn’t watch Soccer Saturday because Jose continues to leave before the end of some games.

Most managers to view the gesture as unsportsmanlike, but Phil Parkinson refused the handshake because he didn’t want to tempt fate. In stoppage time of yesterday’s FA Cup tie the Bradford manager wouldn’t shake Mourinho’s hand because he was still worried about the result, despite leading 4-2.

“He (Mourinho) came over to shake hands but at that point there was still three-and-a-half minutes left and I wasn’t getting drawn into that,’ Parkinson said.

“You know that if Chelsea got one back even at that late stage, and with their world class players on the pitch, they could easily have got a second so we wanted to concentrate on what we had to do and see the game through.”

Mourinho showed great sportmanship after the game though by personally congratulating each Bradford player.
