The triviality of football results became abundantly clear this week with a pair of horrible injuries to two of the sport’s most promising young talents.
Luke Shaw’s leg was broken in two places during Manchester United’s 2-1 defeat to PSV on Tuesday night.
And just 24 hours later it looks like Barcelona’s Rafinha has suffered a similar fate after being injured seriously in a tackle from Radja Nainggolan.

The 22-year-old was substituted off in the 65th minute, having just come on four minutes earlier, and the slow-motion replay shows that his season could be in serious jeopardy.

Nainggolan was booked for the tackle but he was lucky not to have been given his marching orders for a challenge from behind with which the Belgian used a scissors motion to bring Rafinha down.

We have our fingers crossed for a speedy recovery for both players.
