VIDEO: Louis van Gaal reveals what he scribbles whenever Manchester United score a goal

Thank God

Patrick McCarry

Some weeks, the ink never leaves the pen.

Louis van Gaal is not one for leaping about on the touchline and remonstrating with his players.

He is one for jotting in his notepad.

Whenever the TV cameras flash the Dutchman’s way, he is either mulling over his team’s performance or scribbling away. He claims to be the first coach to introduce the art of note-writing during matches. Seriously.

Last night, Daley Blind had enough of United’s attacking torpor and dashed forward to put them 2-1 up against Derby.

Again, the cameras went to van Gaal and the BBC pundits joked, post-match, that Blind may be in trouble for abandoning his post in the centre of United’s defence.

Not so. Van Gaal explained:

“Who gives the assist. That is always important.

“[I also write about] the build-up and how we did it. I have always done that.”
