VIDEO: Louis van Gaal delivers one of his best press briefings with Manchester United

Classic LVG

Frank, funny, blunt, terrifying and, always, worth watching.

Louis van Gaal showed, last night, that his summer holidays have done little to quell his unique, bristling personality.

The Manchester United boss held forth on a number of issues in the first press conference of the club’s pre-season trip to America.

Here are some of the highlights.

LVG told Robin van Persie he was surplus to requirements over a game of golf

‘He’s knows that [he is leaving] already. After the golf we talked about the prospects for him at Man United.’

Paddy McNair has a lot to do to get back in his good books

‘We tried him [at right back] but the difficulty is that he has not always played well in that position. He is better off in central defence.’

Victor Valdes is done with United

‘He is not selected because he doesn’t follow my philosophy. There is no place for someone like that… He refused, last year, to play in our second team.’

He is a very social human being

‘I’m a very social human being.’

LVG speech

Angel Di Maria may be next out the door

‘We shall see [if he will be here after the transfer window]. In football, it is a process… For now, he is still a member of Manchester United and he will come [on pre-season] on July 25.

Don’t ask him questions about David de Gea’s attitude

‘When you ask me in every press conference about the attitude of De Gea, I think it’s stupid.’

LVG smile

He is not a fan of transfer speculation

‘There is so much in the papers but it is not true. He [points at journalist] is writing always rubbish and then it is true. What is in the media is true? No, it is not true.’
