Crying on his own. Wonder what Thierry Henry would say?
Javier Hernandez must have felt he finally arrived at Real Madrid as he guided home a Champions League winner, against Atletico Madrid, with five minutes to play.
‘Chicharito’ has not exactly set the Santiago Bernabeu alight since his loan move from Manchester United – six goals in 25 games.
While he revelled in scoring the winner – shamefully, in the eyes of Henry, choosing to celebrate by thanking God than Cristiano Ronaldo – Hernandez soon went down with a leg injury and was substituted.
Perhaps it was the sense of relief and joy, rather than injury worries, that overtook the Mexican but he burst into floods of tears on the Real bench.
The shoulder than time forgot
Was it just us or did anyone else think Ronaldo flung a cheeky shoulder at Atletico defender Jesus Gamez in the first half?
The World Player of the Year showed no intention of contesting a high ball as he jumped and swivelled his shoulder into Gamez’ cheek, sending the Spanish defender crashing to the turf.
On RTE, Ronnie Whelan suggested Ronaldo could have delivered a slight bump while BeIn Sports suggested there was a ‘half turn’ of the shoulder before Gamez was planted with one.
There has been no mention of the incident from the Atletico camp but Ronaldo could well have been cautioned for this.
