VIDEO: Daryl Murphy keeps up his frankly incredible goalscoring streak

The Irishman finishes 2014 as The Championship's top marksman

Daryl Murphy has 66 goals in 280 club appearances but his goals per games ratio is verging on the spectacular this season. The Waterford footballer is into his 10th season as a professional but has only struck upon a goalscoring vein since 2013/14 and beyond.

30 goals have flooded in over the past 18 months, prompting an international recall. Last night, Murphy nodded home from close range for his league-leading 17th of the season. The tally puts him three ahead of Derby County’s Chris Martin. Ireland’s Simon Cox (8) and David McGoldrick (7) are further down the chart.

Ipswich beat Charlton 3-0 with McGoldrick also in the score-sheet. The fan footage video (above) is a tad blurry but you will be able to see Murphy head home his goal. We will endeavour to locate a clearer clip.

The goal moves Town up to second in The Championship. If Murphy and McGoldrick can keep up their scoring form, the East Anglian club could well make a Premier League return next season.

Murphy moved clear of Martin & co. on December 26 with this excellent brace against Brentford.

Murphy shares a spot as the top scorer across England’s four divisions with another Irish forward. Eoin Doyle has found the net 17 times in 22 appearances with Chesterfield this season.

With Robbie Keane in MVP form Stateside, Anthony Stokes tipping away at Celtic and Kevin Doyle hoping for a fresh chance up front for Crystal Palace, we just need Shane Long to find his scoring touch for Southampton again and we can sleep better in 2015.
