Fans of Brazilian club Gremio, have thought of a new way to help out their team… fire rockets at opposition goalkeepers.
It’s dangerous, unsportsmanlike and not something we approve of, but it worked – kind of.
During a recent league game, a firework, seemingly coming from the terrace where the Gremio fans were, exploded beside the opposition goalkeeper just as a free-kick was being taken.
The poor ‘keeper drops to the ground following the loud explosion, but play continues from and the ball goes into the net. Cue confusion and some fans calling for the goal to stand.
The goal doesn’t seem to be allowed though, as none of the player’s celebrate. While this isn’t the first time goalkeepers have been distracted by a spectators at a game in Brazil.
At last summer’s World Cup, Russian ‘keeper Iker Akinfeev had a laser shown in his face in the group game against Algeria.
However that goal was allowed to stand, Russia drew the game 1-1 and crashed out of the World Cup.
