‘Respect?’

There is no doubt what Victor Valdes is getting at, this morning, with his latest contribution to Twitter.

The soon-to-be-former Manchester United goalkeeper had his commitment to the club openly questioned, last night, in Louis van Gaal’s press briefing with the media.

The Dutchman declared, ‘He is not selected because he doesn’t follow my philosophy. There is no place for someone like that… He refused, last year, to play in our second team.’

Valdes took the bait.

Valdes is, in fact, correct. He did make three appearances for the Red Devils’ Under-21 side, which is allowed a certain allocation of over-aged players.

Van Gaal said that, despite Valdes’ perceived insolence, he let him make vhis senior debut, near the tail-end of last season, as he was fond of the former Barcelona goalkeeper. ”I’m a very social human being,’ he added.

Indeed, that total is higher than his first-team outings – Arsenal [home] and Hull City [away].

What is clear from the past 24 hours is that Valdes will not play for United again.
