United to suffer again and Solskjaer to start feeling the pressure

Ole’s at the wheel but what if there was a better driver available?

What if there was a club who got rid of the very man who dragged them to the summit of Europe and they replaced him with a time bomb?

What if Mauricio Pochettino was available? The guy they said United should’ve gotten in the summer. The guy who they thought they might not get because he wouldn’t leave Spurs.

Ole’s at the wheel but, if you had the choice, would you rather someone else with a better grip lead you around that windy cliff-edge road?

The Premier League is back, thank Christ, and there’s a tasty battle on Saturday evening get stuck right in to.

The fixtures for this week are below so we’ll give you some help.

Man City v Chelsea
(Saturday, 5.30pm)

Pep is hurting. Is reputation is, incredibly, being questioned again. Apparently averaging 99 points in the Premier League proves nothing if he can’t win it a third successive time. Chelsea are going well, they’re exciting, they’re fun and Lampard has proved some doubters wrong thus far.

But a wounded Pep is a scary beast.

Prediction: City 3-1 Chelsea

Hamilton v Rangers
(Sunday, 12.15pm)

Steven Gerrard’s Rangers going toe for toe with Celtic. After 12 games, just one goal separates the two of them and 10th-place Hamilton aren’t going to derail them.

Prediction: Pain

(But also, 4-0 to Rangers)

Sheffield United v Man United
(Sunday, 4.30pm)

The best defence in the Premier League welcome the best soap opera in the Premier League. United might be flirting with being a mid-table club, joint on points with Bournemouth and Wolves, scorers of the eighth most amount of goals so far, but they draw a crowd, to give them their credit.

It’s for the wrong reasons though. It’s become the UK and Ireland’s favourite tragic comedy, watching the legs constantly being cut from beneath the former kings of England. Chris Wilder is a man with an axe and Solskjaer’s neck looks primed with Pochettino’s shadow lurking over Old Trafford.

Prediction: Sheffield United 1-0 Man United
