After a year away from the pinnacle of European football, Manchester United have secured their place in the group stages of the 2015/16 Champions League.
And it began with a sigh of relief at Old Trafford as the Red Devils avoided the likes of Barcelona and Bayern Munich and were matched with top seeded PSV Eindhoven which means a quick homecoming for United new boy Memphis Depay.
Louis van Gaal’s side have a long journey ahead of them when they visit CSKA Moscow while the trickiest tie of the bunch could arguably be both games against Bundesliga runners-up Wolfsburg although the German side could be less dangerous when Kevin de Bruyne’s expected move to Manchester City is finalised.
Most United fans were visibly delighted.
@ManUtd oooo yeessss !!!!

There were some cynics though.

That draw is fixed every year I’ve never known United to play a half decent team in the group stages

The pessimists still thought that it was a tough group.
United’s group looks easy but tricky…

A very tricky group for Manchester United. I am happy with the group as we wont take the group lightly and in doing so should qualify. #MUFC — Kunal Agarwal (@Kunal_MUFC) August 27, 2015
United have got such a tough group. Unless we make another solid signing, I can see us not getting top two https://t.co/uuPcrLAzSH
— Mitch (@TheMitchJenkins) August 27, 2015
That is still a very tough draw for United who are still acclimatising to playing midweek football. Should struggle massively — MicheAL Mangan (@micheal_mangan) August 27, 2015
Will be tough againts CSKA at Moscow #MUFC
