Transfer talk: Manchester United poised to land Schneiderlin and loan out Januzaj

A season at Goodison Park may not be the worst idea

It has been slow going for Manchester United supporters ever since they brought in Memphis Depay.

Alex Ferguson, in his latter years at Old Trafford, liked to conduct his transfer business before he headed to the United States for his summer holidays.

It looked as if Louis van Gaal was following suit when he secured the services of Depay but there has yet to be another player brought into the club ahead of their return to Champions League football.

That looks set to chance, according to The Guardian. The newspaper believes Arsenal have all but given up the chase for Southampton and France midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin. While United are still pining for Bayern Munich’s Bastian Schweinsteiger, snapping up the Saints midfielder for £16m would represent sound, if unspectacular, business.

Most United fans now accept that David de Gea will be a Real Madrid player next season but Daily Express are reporting that – despite the year remaining on his contract – the club will not let him go unless they get £35m.

Liverpool are going the Fergie route this summer and are signing up players left, right and centre. The Guardian spoke with the agent of Seville striker Carlos Bacca and learned that Brendan Rodgers’ men are one of two Premier League side’s his client would be interested in joining.

Gazzetto dello Sport claim the Reds have made contact with Atalanta about Italy Under-21 left-back Davide Zappacosta.

Aged 23 yet competing in this summer’s European Under-21 Championship, the defender scored three goals in 29 appearances for the Serie A club last season.

Manchester City may have to mark Yaya Toure’s next eight birthdays in their calendar as the Ivorian claims he would like to stay on at the club until he is 40. He may be joined for some of that vigil by Fabien Delph. The Mirror are reporting that the Aston Villa midfielder may make the switch once City activate the £10m buy-out clause on his contract.
