Imagine Radamel Falcao’s options if he had done well last year.
Never mind staying at Manchester United, the Colombian striker would have Barcelona and Real Madrid fighting it out for him. However, after just four goals last season, Falcao will have to settle for either Chelsea or Liverpool. The striker may be prepared to take a pay cut, but his agent deserves a raise if he can pull off either of these moves.
Falcao’s representative Jorge Mendes is reportedly in talks with Chelsea over a move for the 29 year old, and now The Daily Star have reported that Liverpool are looking to hijack the move to the Premier League champions.
Brendan Rodgers wants to beef up his misfiring front line, and naturally immediately thought of the Monaco striker. A 29 year old who spent last season on loan at Liverpool’s fiercest rivals, only scored four times, has had two serious ACL injuries and, even if he takes a significant pay cut, will still be the club’s highest earner.
Falcao may have been a flop last season, but his agent will be the Lionel Messi of football representatives if he can pull this one off.
Manchester United seem to have accepted they’ll be losing David de Gea to Real Madrid, and want compensation in form of Karim Benzema. The Daily Telegraph are reporting Madrid could use Benzema as leverage to take De Gea back to Spain, and United are open to deal as they’ve long been interested in Benzema.
Former manager Alex Ferguson reportedly tried to sign him in 2009, before he move to the Bernabeu.
The Telegraph’s northern football correspondent Mark Ogden is reporting that De Gea wants to move, but won’t agitate to make the deal, meaning Madrid will have to force United’s hand. The goalkeeper, who only has a year remaining on his contract, looks certain to leave Old Trafford this summer. Would United fans be happy with this swap deal?
Manchester City may have had a bid rejected for Raheem Sterling last night, but Manuel Pellegrini reportedly has a transfer war chest at his disposal this summer and are prepared to spend big to refresh the squad. In addition to targeting Sterling, City are preparing a €80 million bid for Paul Pogba, according to The Daily Mail.
The Juventus midfielder is reportedly wanted by a number of clubs, including Barcelona, Real Madrid, Chelsea and former club Manchester United, but City are prepared to jump the queue and force Juve’s hand with a massive bid for the 22 year old.
City chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak said this week that: ‘this squad will be stronger and the team will be more competitive (next season). I am confident and excited about what is coming next year.’ And, with UEFA chief Michel Platini saying recently that Financial Fair Play rules will be less restrictive than originally planned, City have been all but given the a green light to go on another spending spree.
