Summer 2016.
PSG smash the world transfer record twice within days.
First, Lionel Messi is signed for €250 million from Barcelona, after the Ligue 1 club pay the Argentine’s buyout clause.
Then, days later, PSG sign Cristiano Ronaldo from Real Madrid, his buyout clause is reportedly £1 billion, but the clubs agree on a figure just north of Messi’s fee.
Impossible, right?
Well according to French media outlet Le Parisien, this is the plan of PSG owner Nasser Al-Khelaïfi.The Qatari has a bottomless pit of oil money, and is clearly a man not used to being told no. There have been murmurs of PSG making a move for both players at different times, but never in a double swoop.
Notable deterrents to the move could be that both player’s are symbols of their respective clubs, extremely well paid and winning trophies. There’s also the fact that negotiations for such deals would most likely be logistical nightmares.
A move for both Ronaldo and Messi,at the same time, wouldn’t even be feasible on a computer game.
But thanks, Le Parisien, the bar for crazy transfer rumours has been set very, very high.
Thomas Muller to Manchester United doesn’t seem so outlandish now, does it?
