Some Manchester United supporters might have believed their team were on the cusp of turning a corner.
A convincing 3-0 victory over Stoke City was followed by a decent performance at Stamford Bridge, where United came agonisingly close to taking all three points.
But having lost to relegation-threatened Sunderland in Saturday’s early kick off, things were looking as gloomy as ever for the Old Trafford club.
Incredibly, the defeat leaves United with 41 points, the lowest tally the club has ever had at this stage in any of their previous Premier League campaigns.
Grim reading for those connected with Louis van Gaal’s side.
