There was some confusion after Manchester United won a second penalty against Benfica

You don't see this every game

Manchester United have all but booked their place in the knockout stages of the Champions League.

Jose Mourinho’s team recorded a comfortable 2-0 victory over Benfica at Old Trafford on Tuesday night, winning the game thanks to an own-goal by Mile Svilar and a late Daley Blind penalty.

They now have 12 points with two games to play, and sit six points clear of Basel and CSKA Moscow in Group C.

United missed the chance to take the lead earlier in the game from the penalty spot, after Anthony Martial had his kick saved by the young Benfica goalkeeper.

When the home side won another penalty late in the game, there was some confusion about who should take the spot-kick. Romelu Lukaku first collected the ball, but the Belgian striker was overruled by Ander Herrera, possibly because he missed a penalty against Leicester City earlier in the season. Herrera was about to place the ball on the penalty spot, when Daley Blind approached him and took the ball off him.

It seemed as though the Dutch defender was given the nod by Mourinho to take the kick.
